PHU MY PORT – CU CHI TUNNEL – HO CHI MINH CITY TOUR FROM CRUISE (-/L/-) |
Upon your arrival in Phu My Port, you will be welcome by Luco Travel’s tour guide & driver and transfer to Cu Chi tunnel, otherwise known as the “Iron Triangle” or “Iron Land” in war time. On the way we will drive through pleasant countryside; rubber plantations and rice paddies.
Before entering the tunnels, we will see a short introductory video showing how they were constructed, followed by an exploration of the maze of tunnels, some of which have been widened to allow tourist access.
Also on display are various mantraps and the remains of an American tank as well as numerous bomb craters made by 500lb bombs dropped by B52 bombers.
After that travelers can try delicious manioc which was the main food for guerilla-warriors in Cu Chi during the war. Visitors can try to fire off an AK47 or MK16 or machine guns at the nearby shooting range. (on request and under control by Vietnamese Army, allow above 18 years old)
Cu Chi tunnel
We have a special lunch at Ben Nay Restaurant before going back to Ho Chi Minh city.
After lunch time, we will go to Ho Chi Minh City center to visit the War Remnants Museum: Formerly known as the Museum of American War Crimes, this is a poignant display of the futility of war. Some of the black and white photography in the ‘Requiem’ exhibit is particularly touching, dedicated to both foreign and Vietnamese journalists and photographers who perished during the conflict. The courtyard outside contains the spoils of war, namely rusting jets, tanks and cannons captured from the American military machine, The Reunification Palace: This is one of the most important buildings in the city. Here on April 30th 1975 the ‘American War’ officially ended when tank number 843 of the North Vietnamese Army crashed through the gates of what was, at the time, the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam. (outside). Visit the former US Embassy where the last helicopter flew out of Saigon in 1975.
Ho Chi Minh City
We also stop to visit Notre Dame Cathedral, Old Post Office to get good shots for our memory of the big, modern city of Vietnam. And then go to Ben Thanh market / Saigon Square– here we can experience our Vietnamese Southern daily life.
Our car and guide will take you back to Phu My Port.
